Nancy Rourke
I grew up in San Diego. Painting and drawing during my childhood was my way of expressing myself. I was always drawing and painting whenever I could. I used to bring a big tool box filled with colored pencils, pens, and papers to a local elementary school. I studied art at Rochester Institute of Technology.
I don’t have a favorite artist but I have a favorite art movement that showed a specific style with its own philosophy, followed by a group of french artists during a period of time. I look at the art movement and I consider it as a new avant-garde in today’s modern art. Fauvism has been a strong influence for me. I admire brilliant colors, new primitive elements, expressive brushworks, flat compositions, and always-new ideas in the paintings. My subject matters are generally to what I see I paint.
