Outsider Art Inside  Free and Open to Public

This show is a culmination of an eight week residency for teens with and without disabilities. Colorado is known for its natural beauty but we believe we are also surrounded with beauty in our cities: from public art that graces our streets, the graffiti murals that adorn some of our alleys, to the unexpected art found in someone’s front yard. We determined to take a look at outside artwork found in our city and to bring some of it inside. During the residency, our teens studied public art, architecture and outsider art. Then, working with a variety of professional artists, our teens created works of homage to city street beauty. Working independently and in teams, our group of young artists explored the metro Denver area looking for inspiration.  During the residency we visited much of the public art in the city and took two field trips to the Museum of Outdoor Arts and the Denver Art Museum.  We worked with some of Denver’s best artists including Andy Brezeczek, Phil Bender, Jeff Wenzel, Marsue Todd, Derrick Velasquez, Niza Knoll and Ratha Sok.
