A guiding principle of Access Gallery is that people with disabilities are able to access appropriate arts learning experiences. But what exactly makes arts “accessible”? Given that many standard art materials are expensive and not easily transported, primary considerations include, cost, availability and workability of a material. For the culmination of their Fall Residency programs, the Access artists explored all things sticky, tacky, tapey and tactile, and found that stickers are a highly accessible material for those with significant physical and mental disabilities. For those who are not able to hold a pencil or a paintbrush, they proved to be a brilliant medium resulting in an entire exhibit bursting with stickers! The whimsical show “Stick ‘em up Chuck” runs January 6- February 3, 2017 at 909 Santa Fe Drive. The public is invited to an Artist Reception on Third Friday, January 20th, 5-8 pm and to First Friday Receptions on January 6th and February 3rd, 5-9 pm.
