ArtWorks Program

Our ArtWorks program supports young people with disabilities transitioning out of high school by providing economic opportunities through the arts. Our artists are at a disadvantage when it comes to options for work, college and other post-high school options. Nearly 70% of people with disabilities in the US are unemployed with the majority of our artists currently living at or below the poverty line.

ArtWorks artists work on their technique and build job skills through a series of workshops and professional development opportunities led by teaching artists and professional mentors while receiving financial compensation for their time and work. Our artists are introduced to a wide variety of accessible art media and techniques that allow them to explore contemporary styles, contributing to gallery shows throughout the year.

ArtWorks programming currently includes:

  • Corporate Commissions: Our artists create beautiful and original pieces of artwork completely customizable to a company’s brand, message, and style. Each ArtWorks team of artists will bring your space to life. Commissioned pieces can be made to suit any type of work environment and any size space including: offices, retail and commercial spaces, community centers and more. Click here to view examples and learn more.
  • Pet Portraits: Commission one of our artists to paint your pet! Simply provide us with a picture you would like us to paint and give us your top three choices of artists. Portraits start at $80. Click here to view examples and learn more.
  • Art-O-Mat Machine:  Retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend original, affordable and accessible art. Each piece of art from the machine is an original pocket-sized piece— what an easy way to start an art collection! Fun and slightly addicting (although much less than cigarettes), the Art-O-Mat is also available for rentals. Learn more here.
  • The Shop: Our shop is stocked with a variety of works from our artists – postcards, books, sculptures, paintings, etc. – and is a great place to find unique gifts. The Access Gallery Shop is a social enterprise, giving our artists the opportunity to sell their own work. Stop in the gallery during our open hours to see what fun gifts await for you!

About Access Gallery

Access Gallery is an inclusive nonprofit organization that engages the community by opening doors to creative, educational, and economic opportunities for people with disabilities to access, experience and benefit from the arts. We are located in the heart of the Art District on Santa Fe, filled with multiple galleries, schools, museums, and artist studios. Our neighborhood is a continual reminder of the equalizing power of art, breaking down social barriers and becoming a place where young adults with disabilities feel welcome to create, question, and learn from each other.
