The Collective Spectacle, Exploration and Giving Voice

Each summer, Access Gallery’s internship programs culminate in exhibitions that celebrate creativity, growth and new possibilities. On view August 7 through September 5, 2026, The Collective Spectacle, Exploration and Giving Voice showcase the work of emerging artists while highlighting the many ways creativity can build confidence, strengthen skills and open doors.

Presented in the Main Gallery, The Collective Spectacle features original artwork created by the 2026 ArtWorks Summer Interns. During the eight-week transition program, ten recent high school graduates with disabilities explored new materials, strengthened technical skills and developed artwork inspired by their own interests and experiences. From fantasy and Japanese folklore to music, nature, technology and personal memories, each piece reflects an artist discovering greater confidence while building a foundation for future creative opportunities.

On the Community Art Wall, Exploration marks the debut exhibition of Access Gallery’s inaugural Creative Careers Internship Program. Throughout the ten-week internship, artists expanded their creative practices while gaining professional experience beyond the studio. They planned and curated their exhibition, taught classes alongside Access Gallery Teaching Artists and explored careers at the Denver Art Museum through the Pathways Exploration Internship. The exhibition reflects not only the artwork they created, but also the leadership, collaboration and professional skills they developed throughout the summer.

Displayed in a section of the gallery are the Giving Voice posters, part of a collaborative program that has paired ArtWorks interns with graphic designers and Access Gallery artists for seventeen years. In 2026, design partners included graphic design students, Access Gallery artists and several members of the inaugural Creative Careers Internship Program, who are also Access Gallery artists.

Each collaboration began with conversations about a social issue that mattered to the ArtWorks intern. Working together, the teams transformed those ideas into posters that educate, inspire and encourage dialogue. The interns guided the creative direction, provided feedback and approved the final designs, gaining experience as clients in a collaborative design process.

Together, these three exhibitions tell a larger story about artistic growth. Whether creating original artwork, curating an exhibition, teaching others or collaborating through design, each artist explored new ways to express ideas, solve problems and build confidence. The Collective Spectacle, Exploration and Giving Voice celebrate the creativity, determination and perspectives of Access Gallery artists while demonstrating what becomes possible when artists have opportunities to learn, lead and grow.
