"I'd be miserable without a gallery."
Bio
Alonzo began making art as a young child, shaping animal sculptures and painting vivid skies that capture the feeling and temperature of a scene. Even without traditional materials, he found ways to create with whatever was around him. As Alonzo says, “God gave a gift,” and that gift has guided his life in art.
For more than 20 years, Alonzo developed his artistic practice before gaining wider recognition in the early 1980s, when increased public awareness of Savant Syndrome brought attention to artists with extraordinary abilities. Alonzo’s talent and joyful approach to making art led to international recognition, with appearances on programs including 60 Minutes, Geraldo, and the Discovery Channel’s World of Wonder.
Today, Alonzo is celebrated for his sculptures and paintings, as well as for the sense of possibility and joy in his work. He lives independently with some assistance, works part time, and enjoys sharing his creativity with others, including demonstrating his sculpting for children in local schools.
